The conflict in the Middle East escalated today when terrorists of unknown origin commandeered an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman and diverted it to Iranian waters. The tanker, called the St. Nikolas, was carrying crude oil from Iraq to Turkey. Empire Navigation, the management company for the ship, activated its emergency plan, notifying authorities. It lost contact with the vessel at 6:30 AM (eastern time).
