Artificial intelligence (“AI”) ventures have captured thirty to thirty-five percent of all venture capital invested globally over the last two quarters. Ventures outside of AI have been left to scrounge for the scraps of capital that have remained.
This gold rush has grown over the last few years. AI investments have grown from thirteen percent in the third quarter of 2022 to thirty-five percent in the second quarter of 2024.
AI fundraising has distorted the venture capital market to a far greater extent than previous venture bubbles. Venture capital investments never exceeded six percent. FinTech venture rounds of financing grew to represent twenty percent of total venture capital in 2021.
